National Music Videos

, Schikaneder 61 min

A journey from a sports hall to a private bathroom, from a scrap yard to Vienna’s rooftops and from a concert hall to a changing cubicle. On this journey we will encounter cannibalistic poultry, security guards, who take their job a little too seriously, and a sports car and its equally “to die for” driver. The Austrian music video competition, which takes place for the second time this year, shows a high-quality cross section of Austrian music and video making. Alongside audience favourites like Bilderbuch and Ja, Panik, the eclectic selection will also showcase the work of young talents like Konea Ra and Austrian Apparel. The best video will be awarded the Austrian Music Video Prize by our jury.

He, who looks closer, sees more. Multi media artist Clemens Wirth shows us what lies within a drop of water – we see the molecular conflict of microscopic life forms. In this size these creatures almost seem as if they came from another planet.

Fijuka - Behave

Austria2013 04 min 42 sec No dialogue

In a chandelier-decked sports hall, between ribbons, aero wheels and lifts, Fijuka show us what rhythmic sport gymnastics really look like. It works best with rhythmic pop music, a lot of glitter, a gracious expression and feather light movements, directed by Florian Pochlatko, with a twinkle in his eye.

Austria2013 03 min 08 sec No dialogue

In their one-shot video Ja, Panik sit naked in a bathtub, singing about Libertatia, a pirates’ utopia that apparently existed towards the end of the 17th century in Madagascar. An account of love, the world and liberty with a lot of bubbles and smooth gestures.

Austria2013 03 min 30 sec German

“Get into my car, get in my car now. Seven doors, 70 HP, the wind blowing wildly in the front” – we would immediately go for a spin in the bright yellow car, even with the windows down and a strong wind.

Naked Lunch - At the Lovecourt

"At the Lovecourt" Naked Lunch

Austria2013 05 min 12 sec English

Here the band exists only as a shadow, an out-of-focus, faceless image, only becoming visible through the audience’s facial expressions. Thereby the music becomes ascertainable in its most condensed form, in joy, ecstasy, concentration, tender sadness and introvert silence.

Jakob Kubizek

Velojet - Cold Hands

Austria2013 03 min 47 sec English

Ice hands for licking, hands that clean, hands that do gymnastics, hands and more hands and in the middle of all this: a horse in the woods. The idiosyncratic video is captivating with its static, 80s-style shots, which are as psychedelic in nature as Velojet’s music.

Konea Ra - Boy

Austria2013 04 min 10 sec No dialogue

Something about Andreas Waldschütz’s one-shot video is unsettling – and even after noticing the distinctive technical feature, one is still mesmerised by the interplay of colours and the music by up-and-coming duo Konea Ra.

Kreisky - Selbe Stadt andrer Planet

"Same City other Planet" Kreisky

Austria2013 03 min 36 sec German

Kreisky sit on a couch, motionlessly staring into the camera. Then, however, one notices little movements, a wink here, a nod of the head there. Suddenly there is straw. What happens next is just as unexpected and has to do with cannibalism and remote controlled “incontrollability”.
